Our Vintage Boudoir, Lounge & Beachwear Silk Collection inspiration
Spring is coming, love is in the air and Hubba Hubba Vintage has romanced classic style with SS15 colours in our new Silk Collection. Over the winter our Isle of Wight atelier has been imbibing iconic Hollywood style with some swift 70s chasers. The result the morning after is a unique collection of indulgent boudoir, beach and loungewear, tipping our hat to the playful 30s, sophisticated 40s and 70s glam style.
Our style radar noticed that revival fashion was still present in many couture collections; something we already know is cool and fabulous! Psst… classic style doesn’t ever really go out of fashion, it just takes a while for everyone else to cotton on.
Here is our Hubba Hubba edit. New York Fashion Week saw looser elegant legwear as shown by Chanel with fabulous wide legged trousers. Two of our pieces from the Silk Collection certainly could have strutted their stuff on the catwalks with ease. Our unique 30s Beach Pyjamas and glamorous 40s Palazzo Pants are based on original designs which incorporate tie waists and flattering wide leg cuts – we wonder if you have seen anything else quite so wonderful? Hopefully not! During our research, visit us on Pinterest; we have amassed a selection of photographs of ladies on the Cote D’Azure in their 30s Beach Pyjamas, worn to cover their most daring one-piece bathing suits whilst effortlessly lounging around. Even then Beach Pyjamas were considered to be quite scandalous and revealing by some – delicious!
Two key SS15 colours in our Silk Collection are soft white, sophisticated and soothing, and glacier grey, a timeless and graceful tone of relaxation and gentle escape. We do keep an eye on trends, but of course choose colours that flatter our clothes and we also love, which is lucky because white and grey were used by many designers and will continue to be present both throughout couture and the high street this year. Hooray! All Hubba Hubba pieces in this collection are made from luxurious Mulberry Silk exclusively sourced by us direct from the silk road, passing on a heritage of silk trade since the Han Dynasty in 206BC (thank you Wikipedia). We actually chose a 96% silk and 4% spandex mix; it gives the fabric a little extra movement and stretch and really emphasises the sheen. In the 30s and 40s women aspired to have at least one key silk piece in their wardrobe and many Hollywood starlets have been adorned with this truly beautiful fabric. Once you have worn silk next to your skin you might never go back, which is why is has been coveted for its luxury for over two thousand years!
Gliding gently into the 40s our Silk Collection brings sophistication to the boudoir with our 40s Icon and 40s Siren full-length deep V back nightgowns. Created to slip easily on (and off) with tie waists to emphasise the figure you would be forgiven for wanting to wear one out, and why ever not? Vintage beach trends of flowing silk and Hollywood glamour are present throughout 2015 and our classic silhouette demands to be seen! We aim to bring vintage style and silk back with a bang in this collection through additional colour palettes of dusky pink, very subtle and flattering for the skin, and rich chocolate brown, a smooth classic.
Now, you may have missed this but flashbacks to the 70s were seen in almost every show by an essence of the decade hinted to in garment cuts, think silky wide legged jumpsuits. Or flares. There is no escape. Now here’s a tip, you can simply pop on our 30s Palazzo Pants and leap forward 40 years in effortless style yet still be bang on trend, you would be surprised how similar the cuts in clothing are of these two decades (we know, we have several hundred patterns spanning 70 years, phew, thank you local charity shops!). However, we took a nod from Tom Ford, Prada and Pucci who all reminisced à la Haute Hippy and have created two stunning 70s style day to evening dresses. Our 70s Crossover Maxi Dress shown in yellow gold takes the SS15 trend of custard yellow and gives it a metallic sheen emanating sunny days, warmth and happiness. The drawstring halter neck can be tied in several different ways and this very simple but stunning full-length dress can be worn day or night.
Finally we chose a dramatic plunge neck for our 70s Maxi Lounge Dress to complete our Silk Collection which, like our 40s evening gowns, sits on the waist and has a four panelled skirt wrapping at the back with ties. Our inspiration was definitely Jerry Hall so we went all out and chose emerald green to showcase this dramatic dress and stop the traffic. What more can we say? Va Va Voom Ya’ll! You can go behind the scenes on our photoshoot in our latest Hubba Hubba blog to read about what inspired our ‘look’.
So, it has been a inspirational journey from the 30s to 70s. Our timeless trousseau has been created to reflect nostalgic glamour and vintage style. SS15 colours infuse gently through an indulgent collection of timeless apparel. All of our Silk Collection is designed and handmade in England to order and all the pieces can be made in any colour from this collection.
